"I still felt fat"

I traveled with my eldest daughter who acted as a support person. I would recommend anyone who is contemplating extensive surgery to have someone reliable with them.

I had never been to Asia before and felt that while I was in KL, I would be able to go sightseeing and do/see things that I had never done before.

Cost was a huge factor in my decision. I could never have had this surgery in NZ; I could not have afforded it.

Although I had lost 45kg in weight but was still considered overweight and STILL had my huge droopy tummy. I had been overweight for many years and although I had lost this amount of weight; I still felt fat as I had trouble getting clothes that fitted over my tummy.

I choose Gorgeous Getaways because I saw a TV programme about Dr Jalil operating on a woman from Auckland. It was extremely successful. Then I read a magazine article in the Australian Women's Weekly and it had the Gorgeous Getaways website. I checked that out and was hooked. I made up my mind within 5 minutes of reading. However, I did discuss my plans with my GP. She was very supportive and knew of the hospital, saying it was the best in the area, so I had no qualms about going. I would recommend that you also let your GP know what you are planning.

I told EVERYONE at work as well as friends what I was having done. Only one person made negative comments.

Beyond their call of duty

Dr Jalil was FABULOUS!! The hospital and staff could not be faulted. In fact, I think the staff were far superior to any hospital back home; attentive, friendly, hardworking, answering the bell within 30 seconds (I have been in hospital in NZ and feel that I am qualified to make a comment on this).

The Gorgeous Getaways support staff were just as excellent. They were in contact every day and couldn't have been more helpful. Any time I felt that I needed to see Dr Jalil, they arranged a time. The only thing that you have to get used to is waiting!!! Try and remember that Dr J is very busy - he is not off having a coffee but working with other patients and consequently you may have to wait to see him for and hour and a half. Well worth the wait.

I felt relaxed through the whole process. Any questions you have are answered truthfully and in full.

Surgery first, shopping later

I was discharged 5 days after my operation. I had some fluid retention so was kept in for 2 extra days (at no extra cost) until Dr Jalil was satisfied with my progress.

Wasn't that great?

I was up and about the day after surgery. You are encouraged to walk around as this helps the healing process. Once I was discharged, I followed Dr Jalil's instructions to the letter - have a sauna everyday and gentle walking. The first week I stayed at the hotel and used the gym treadmill to walk slowly and well as just walking around the hotel complex.

My daughter and I went shopping - a lot!!! You don't need to walk fast or far before finding a seat in a shopping mall.

Back home in NZ

I feel that you should know that I did have a small complication - nothing that can be blamed on any person. I had some necrotic tissue from where my tummy tuck scar intersected with on an old gallbladder scar. When I came home my GP arranged for the District Nurse to dress this wound. However, because of the kind of dressing used, I ended up in hospital here (just for a day) where VERY dismissive doctors who tried to blame Dr Jalil. Well, the NZ doctor came off second best when I enlightened him that it was an NZ problem.

When Dr Jalil came to NZ for a visit I had a FREE consultation and he offered to fix the scar at no cost to me - FREE doctor, FREE anesthetist, FREE hospital. How amazing was that!! I took this offer up and contacted Gorgeous Getaways again. At the hospital in the town that I live when some of the doctors thought I had the operation here they just said, "Oh well, pity about the scar but you'll just have to put up with that. At least you have a flatter tummy." There was no talk of fixing the scar. I am so impressed with the service offered by Dr Jalil and Gorgeous Getaways.

Some say 'I look hot'

I feel wonderful. But I went a bit berserk and bought lots of clothes. People have told me I look amazing. Men have said that I look 'hot'. Something that never occurred to me, definitely not what I was looking for.

I sing the praises of Gorgeous Getaways to anyone who will listen as well as praising Dr Jalil. Two of my friends have made enquiries about having surgery - one has booked her holiday already. This was the best thing that I have ever done in my life. I had to extend my mortgage to achieve this but it was well worth it.

I was always a confident person but now feel SUPER confident. When I walk into a room, I KNOW that I look good. It has helped me when I have to give presentations at work - I don't have to worry about how I look - just put on my clothes and off I go. I go swimming for exercise and don't worry what I look like. I feel and look NORMAL.

My personal tips

Put aside the first week after surgery to pamper yourself. Stay close to your hotel. If you have had body work done, you feel good if you have a manicure, pedicure and/or facial. The Gorgeous Getaways ladies can recommend places close by.

Attend the activities put on by Gorgeous Getaways - the brunch and the afternoon tea. You will get to meet other amazing women. It is good to talk about what you have had done or are having done. Great support from everyone.

Gorgeous Getaways provides amazing service. If you want or need anything they are always there to help. They are extremely professional and won't discuss you with other clients. They will arrange for you to meet others who have had the same procedures done if you wish.

There are HEAPS of things to do in KL. The most unusual was going to the Fish Spa in The Pavilion - only 38 Ringgit and have little fish nibble the dead skin on your feet. I managed to find the best coffee shop in KL - Illy - also at the Pavilion. While in KL make sure you have enough time to go on some tours - there are wonderful things to see and do.
