Tackling what the gym can't fix
I was overweight after two pregnancies. My best friend was in the same situation. She started with a personal trainer, then encouraged me to do the same. 2 years later and 10 kilos lighter, I had lost my bust, and couldn't budge the sagging skin around my tummy. I started to research options. I visited 3 plastic surgeons in Sydney and realized I probably won't ever be able to afford the surgery I wanted. The surgeons also said they would not do all the surgeries at one time.

After so many years working my butt at the gym and becoming a self confessed gym junkie. I acknowledged there are just some things the gym can't fix. I had lost my bust after breast feeding and weight loss, I had stretched skin around my waist, and lumpy bits on my hips and thighs.

Over the next 8 years, I watched every surgical show on TV - my favorite being Extreme Makeover. One day, I saw a report on 'A Current Affair' about surgical holidays with Gorgeous Getaways. The women on the interview looked fantastic. I contacted them numerous times with many questions, researched two surgeons and looked at pictures of past clients.

At Christmas time, I came into some unexpected money and immediately decided I would have the surgery overseas. My daughter wanted liposuction so I agreed to her coming with me. Within a week, I had booked flights, paid for accommodation and arrived in Kuala Lumpur.

I choose Gorgeous Getaways because I was impressed with the surgeons, after surgery care, and the cost was very reasonable.

My best friend had similar surgery in Sydney 3yrs ago, she was in for day surgery then I took her home and looked after her. I was very attracted to the idea that I would be looked after in a medical facility, not going home alone. I didn't tell anyone other than the people I lived with at the time, (children and boyfriend) they were ambiguous to my plans.

A 5 star hospital - nothing less
I arrived in KL 6am on a Friday. My Gorgeous Getaways consultant picked us up from the apartment for a 9.30am consultation with Dr Nasir at the Prince Court Medical Centre. Dr Nasir was very approachable; we discussed wants, expectations, how surgery would be done, complications - everything. I was very excited about my surgery and at no point did I feel concerned, or even apprehensive. Afterwards, we went to have our compression garments fitted.

On Saturday, we joined everybody at the Gorgeous Getaways lunch. It was interesting to see the results of different surgeries, get advice and helpful tips.

Sunday evening we checked into Prince Court Medical Centre. This place is spectacular, looks like a 5 star hotel with polished granite, stone and indoor waterfalls. Exceptionally clean.

I was introduced to my Senior Nurse who would be looking after me for this shift and 7 or so of her colleagues that would also be helping me. They all milled around me and started taking my ob's, signing paper work, weight and bloods, oh, and dinner order.

Every shift I would have the same number of staff and so did my daughter. Dr Nasir dropped in after dinner, went over my surgery again, made markings on my skin for surgery and left. The anesthetist introduced himself and went through his role. Then it was time for a good night's sleep, courtesy of a sleeping tablet. I was so excited I would not of slept otherwise. Monday 7am, my daughter was in first for her surgery, I got to see her on the way in and she was fine.

A good recovery for both

Seeing my daughter was the last thing I remember. Next thing, I'm waking briefly in recovery, grumbling yes to "are you in pain" and then back into La La land. The nursing staff in the ward woke me to do my ob's and check my catheter and drains. I couldn't move much, I felt as though my body was being sat on.

I was on a PCA and just pushed the button whenever I felt the slightest twinge of pain. I was in and out of sleep for the rest of the night, my daughter came in to visit a couple of times, she was getting around well. Whenever I was awake I would move my legs, squeeze my butt cheeks and rotate my feet to increase circulation.

Tuesday was spent in and out of sleep too. Waking for ob's and to eat. The pain wasn't too bad but my body had swelled up like the Michelin man. Dr Nasir checked in to see how I was going and asked if I thought I might go home tomorrow. I said no. The PCA was removed and I started taking oral pain medication.

Wednesday morning I awoke amazed at how quickly I was healing. The nurse removed my drains, assist me to shower and helped me into my compression garment. Oh heaven, if only I could of been wearing this all along. I spent the day practicing getting in and out of bed, walking up and down the hall, and eating so much yummy food.

Thursday morning I told the staff I was ready to go home, but not until after lunch. Getting in the car was interesting, getting out was ouch! It was reassuring to know a nurse would be dropping by every day to help us shower, apply cream, pads and the compression garment.

I spent the next couple of days resting and doing short walks. Day before we left for home we had our last check-up. Very bruised our incisions healing really well. Dr Nasir was pleased with our progress. I was excited and yet sad to be going home.

Officially a yummy mummy
Well, its 5 weeks post-op. Most of the bruising is gone, most of the swelling is gone and we both look fantastic. My scars are really obvious but I know will fade in time. My breasts are starting to soften and move when I walk. Yesterday I bought some lingerie. All my clothes look amazing on. I feel so womanly. I wont have to wear a bra if I don't want. I don't have to wear pants that pull my tummy in anymore. I'm a yummy mummy ;)

Overall, I am very happy with my surgery, everyone was very helpful. If your considering surgery I recommend doing heaps of research, get at least 3 surgical opinions, pictures of what you want your result to be. Once you can make an informed decision go ahead and do it. Life is too short for regrets and you should never let fear rule your life.

The best thing about Gorgeous Getaways is the support you get - oh yeah and the cost. Go ahead book today.
